Artist 2.0

This post has been long overdue. I wanted to write about how the modern day artist is able to catch on the wave of the Long Tail in Web 2.0. The artist community is probably one of the largest online apart from the Tech Geeks. For the photographers, there’s Flickr and Deviant Art for the digital artist. These portals allow the artists to interact amongst a community and function as a form of portfolio as well.

With the advent of blogs, the artist is now able to develop a new tool, the Blogfolio. That’s right, a Blog that works as a Portfolio as well. Now this really kills two birds with one stone. There’s no longer a need for complicated coding or hiring expensive website designers. They can pretty much do everything for free and by themselves. The Blogfolio idea is the one of the latest trend that has captured the minds of many web-based visual artists. This allows them to develop a simple CMS (Content Management System) without any fancy complex html or flash codings.

I believe this not only allows them to enjoy some cost saving without getting external support, it also gives them a better focus on their projects without worrying about website management. The Blogfolio concept also provides as an avenue to interact with their clients and potential clients. It’s really Web 2.0 at work. You literally build a community around the work you do. Past clients who are genuinely touched by your works will leave testimonies, share positive experiences and in some sense help to sell you. What more can you ask for?

I see Jacqueline doing that really well and perhaps, this would be the greater purpose for this blog, to display more of my works. Stay tuned, they will be coming right up.

Hey i couldn’t agree more. I think it’s really exciting actually, when the whole blogging thing began a few years ago it was all rather messy, there were so many blogging platforms, different sites, but really it’s all been whittled down to a few main players now (Wordpress, blogspot, LJ), which really cater to certain needs. Those old players like Xanga and b2evolution are slowly becoming a bit obselete and RSS is taking over the world.

I think the line between CMS and blogs are so narrow now that really, anyone and everyone can offer what the professional sites used to have the money to do, with the advent of opensource and the sourceforge community, in addition to the growing userfriendliness of Linux platforms like ubuntu, it’s really amazing.

Web2.0 really rocks :) it really just boggles the mind as to what you can do nowadays… and yes, blogfolios are so easy and convenient to do nowadays :D
